Our Mission

Western Sierra Student Coalition is an AS club that uses a variety of non-violent tactics to curb environmental destruction. We are part of the Sierra Student Coalition. The SSC is the student run arm of the Sierra Club. We have 24,000 members and 250 groups at high schools and colleges around the country. We work on strategic campaigns to protect wilderness around the country and make globalization sustainable and fair; train the young leaders of today and tomorrow; and help youth explore, enjoy and protect our wilderness through student led outings. Each SSC chapter works on a variety of national SSC campaigns as well as other local campaigns of their choosing. The SSC uses a variety of tactics including market campaigns and non-violent direct action to curb environmental destruction locally and around the world.

"If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet deprecate agitation, are people who want rain without thunder and lightening. They want the ocean without the roar of its many waters. Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did, and it never will." -Frederick Douglass, August 3, 1857
